5thColumn's cybersecurity software monitors various layers of activity and data. The user of this software needs to be able to "drill" into this data at times and make notes based on the network's observed behavior. It was important to first layout the placement of the tool within in the context of the entire program (see the top of my wireframe sketch). It was decided to start with the tool being fixed to the bottom right. The current version of the program had natural space to the bottom right which eliminated a number of obstacles allowing efficient development of the tool. Future revisions would allow the tool to be moved freely with the click and drag. Other considerations were to create a button allowing the user to choose having the modules slide out on the right or left side. I designed the tool to be able to easily accommodate these changes pending future user testing.
